Journal Response to Reading.

Reading chapter 10 of The Art of Game Design and taking a look at chapter 2 and 3 of  Theory of Fun for Game Design, I realize that both spoke about something extremely important in games and that is mechanics. Mechanics play an essential role for video games as it the core of what a game really is. In order for video games to have some ''fun'' included is with the problems and patterns it gives the players to face. Games should have patterns that you will need to practice for fun and also must have fun lessons that a player can master.  For example, Tic Tac Toe simple game mechanic is one that a player can master easy therefore get bored quickly and taking a look at a more complicated multiplayer game like Fortnite it opens up countless of possibilities and outcomes due to all the mechanics and objectives it brings to the table. Players would play the game every week just the master the art of shooting or building which have its own mechanics and techniques. It's quicker to master simple games with novice mechanics and score high which can lead to boredom at a quick rate. Fun exercises makes the brain feel good releasing endorphins. It's all about having patters in a certain way to keep players engaged and help them learn new in game skills which will leave them feeling accomplished.
